Conservatives base their reasoning on the nature of competition- that businesses succeed because of better management, that athletes succeed because of better physique, that artists succeed because of creativity, that people succeed because of greed. If we were to take your proposal that everyone should start off on an equal base, we are destroying competition and the freedoms of those who earned their rights to raise a child under better conditions than someone else’s child.

If we were to accept that everyone being born on equal grounds were even possible, the closest scenario I can picture that would satisfy that goal is federal government capping the amount a parent can spend on a child, so that each child is raised the same, has a chance at the same schools, etc. Just out of curiosity, would you support a law such as this? How much money should each parent spend on their children to assure that every child is born with equal opportunities?

Do you believe a system like that would be beneficial to the economy? If not, what would you do to ensure that everyone is born with equal opportunities? Conservatives, of course, believe this environment is impossible, and they use the fact that every civilization in the history of man has had a division of wealth to support that theory. Conservatives believe every human being is different based on what drives them, that we are not just a bunch of sticks.

Contrary to conservatism, a liberal bases his reasoning on what he WANTS human nature to be. This often leads one to lie to himself about what human nature is really capable of, pass premature judgment upon his opponents, criticize on the basis of excuses, not reasons, and trying to achieve the impossible, under the grounds that it is morally right to do so. However, the fact that this very conversation is grounded in competition only proves that conservatism makes more sense than liberalism.

This was an eye opener for me. It made me understand in the simplest way the difference between the two and it all makes a horrid sort of sense. Order vs. Equality how could I not see this? Thanks for the heads up. I get it now.

where are you getting your ideas from? I feel like my ideas are coming from books written by respected research scientists and your ideas are coming from your gut feelings and fox news. If i’m wrong, just give me a couple sources. I don’t put a lot of stock in gut feelings. The video should make that clear. If not then I guess I missed the mark.

This is very nearly word-for-word what I have been saying for about a year now – namely, that conservatives view society as sort of ‘sorting mechanism’ to establish and maintain the natural supremacy of one person over another, whereas liberals view it as a mechanism to help even out the uncontrollable and unaccountable vicissitudes of life. And you are right: it IS time to attack them where it hurts. They have clearly shown they have no interest and no place in civilized society.

“we the people” mean representative democracy. i generally agree w/ you, just not with your labels. democrats and republicans are both conservative parties — there are no more liberal democrats. and since conservatism is based on the authoritarian mode of thought our government has drifted away from SELF-govt to dictatorial rule by rich white conservatives.

I generally agree with this video, but I think it’s more than just the notion of an “order” that matters to conservatives; I think it’s also that they’re simply not familiar with policies arranged in a manner that doesn’t involve any kind of “order,” but where everyone can be treated the same. That’s the impression I get whenever I hear them ranting about gays, and how the conservatives of the 1960s acted towards blacks.

How is liberalism not competitive? Fairness is the basis for TRUE competition, unless you think having someone compete with one hand behind their back is fair.
